The only features still locked to NPU are Windows Recall and Click to Do—both currently require dedicated NPU hardware. But given the trend, it's only a matter of time before they come to GPU.

05. My Take: The Era of Copilot+ "Hardware Tax" Is Over

Honestly, the Copilot+ PC concept was a bit awkward from the start.

On one hand, they said AI needs dedicated hardware; on the other, they locked out users with more powerful GPUs. Consumers either spent thousands extra on an NPU laptop or sat there with a GPU capable of running a 70B model, laughing bitterly—"I can't install the awesome AI features, and the ones I want to install, I don't have."
